Cirrhosis of the liver is not caused by bacteremia
The French National Agronomic Institute, a new study shows that bacteremia causes cirrhosis of the liver are not the cause, on the contrary a result of bacteremia due to alcohol but will lead to certain types of cirrhosis of the liver.
The medical profession generally agreed that occur in patients with alcoholic liver cirrhosis with portal hypertension, allowing increased permeability of the intestinal wall and intestinal bacterial overgrowth, thus allowing excessive levels of bacteria in the intestine into the circulatory system leading to bacteremia. French National Agronomic Institute researchers conducted experiments in rats found that increased intake of alcohol (ie ethanol), the mice in vivo a series of chemical changes occurs, the resulting levels of acetaldehyde in the colon was significantly higher, so that the colon wall permeability-increasing, resulting in bacteremia caused by intestinal bacteria into the circulatory system.
Subsequently, the researchers then used sterile mice, that is, no intestinal flora in experimental mice. The results showed that in mice the higher the concentration of acetaldehyde in the colon of the permeability of the intestinal wall stronger. This shows that acetaldehyde can stimulate basophilic cells, thereby enhancing the permeability of the intestinal wall, causing bacteria into the bloodstream. The researchers also found that alcohol was not a large part of the mice but rather through the intestinal tract through the liver metabolism.
The researchers also believe that bacteremia may lead to liver damage and hardening, it can be said that it will give rise to alcohol-induced liver toxicity.
